Instructor: Donald Brand, College of the Holy Cross Saturday, October 18, 2003 10:00 am to 2:00 pm
Session One Session Two This seminar will examine the relationship of the New Deal to the American political tradition. It will focus particular attention on Franklin Roosevelt's reformulation of the ends of American government through his call for a second Bill of Rights. What is the relationship between the first Bill of Rights and the second Bill of Rights? Is the second Bill of Rights consistent with notions of limited government and constitutional rule? These questions will be explored through an analysis of the New Deal and its legacy for the American regime.
